Hello there, my beautiful readers!
How’s your week so far? I hope all is well in your side of the world.
If you read my previous post, you already know that I just deleted my social media apps on all my devices. Along with that move is finding myself a drawing routine.
I thought, what could be the best way for me to draw regularly without burning myself out? I could find a daily drawing prompt like Inktober. But, knowing myself and my workload, I will not follow through. So, I created my own drawing prompt!
ABaKaDa* is a drawing prompt, showcasing Filipino words that start with each letter of the Tagalog Alphabet (20 letters in total). Every word can be simple or profound, but beautiful regardless. You may choose whatever medium and style you’re comfortable with. And you may choose when to do it — daily, weekly, bimonthly, etc. It doesn’t matter how you interpret the words or how you draw — full color? sketch? typography? No problem! The only rule is to have fun! :)
*“ABaKaDa” is taken from the phonetic sound of the first four letters of the Tagalog alphabet: A-B-K-D.
And so, without further ado, here’s letter A!
After Nine-to-Five is where I share my thoughts, sentiments, and my journey as a self-taught illustrator with a non art-related day job. If you like what you see here, consider being a free subscriber.
Are you a bookworm? If you ask me, I don’t consider myself to be one. I’m more of a book-turtle (if there’s such a word) who casually enjoys reading at my own pace. You won’t always see me carrying a book, and I don’t really have favorite authors. But, I love to explore a good book from time to time. There’s nothing like being transported to a different world while reading. ✨
Some of my favorite books are:
The Dream Giver by Bruce Wilkinson
The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis
Who’s Afraid of Ghosts? by Bonnie Bader
Boss of the Table Manners by Anne de Graaf
The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry
Ang Itim na Kuting by Natasha Vizcarra (Adarna House)
Of course, there are many more on the list — like this Vintage Sesame Street books that came with the encyclopedia set that my grandmother bought for us. Brings back memories!
How about you? What books do you enjoy reading? Are there unforgettable ones?
If you want to join me on this drawing prompt, here’s the complete list. I’d love to see your work! Leave a comment, tag me, or reply to this email. And I’ll feature them on one of my newsletters. :)
This post is public so feel free to share it to your friends.
‘til next time,
Abi ♡
Ohhh this is a nice idea! I want to try this prompt, too. Maybe I can schedule it during buwan ng wika. Or before? Did you do the rest of the letters already? Maybe you want an accountability buddy or want to do the rest of it with meee if you're for it :)
I love the moving turtle and the box on top. Very pinoy vibe! 📚
